Today Dave should turn Scripting News into a directory. Let's see what happens.

There's a great website out there called All Consuming. All Consuming monitors weblogs and detects when a weblog links to a book on Amazon or another bookstore. Then it builds a database with all the reviews of these books. Simple and great.

What if we could do that not only with books but with any other product, service, whatever ? The goal is to have a distributed epinions.com-like service which would be contributed to by bloggers, writing on their own blogs. Adhoc aggregators would do the rest ;-)

A new module for RSS2.0 is born and its name is RVW, written by Alf Eaton. It allows to embed a mini-review in an RSS2.0 feed.

One big problem remains to solve : while for books it's easy to find a universal identification number (the ISSN number), it gets trickier for other products. Some people suggest using the Amazon ASIN number, but it depends on Amazon, and Amazon does not have every product made on Earth in store (well not yet :-) ).

An idea is to get a URL to handle this universal identification number, but... which one ? :-)

I have the feeling that a solution could be to use somewhat the distributed directories Dave is building with OPML. We could put all the reviews of some related products in a common outline that would be that identification URL.

It's just a blured idea at this time, please feel free to contribute to unblur it. :-)

Spéciale dédicace pour Morgan : Tu vois je le mets à jour plus d'une fois tous les 15 jours mon blog. :-P
