Swiff Shrinker
Interesting app that compresses your Flash 2,3,4 and 5 files using a method similar to the compression in Flash MX. It also does some vector clean-up as well. Could be exceedingly useful, especially to all those banner makers who would kill for a few k here and there!

Join the public tech review of Essential Blogging.
Written by leading bloggers and developers (Cory Doctorow, Rael Dornfest, J. Scott Johnson, Shelley Powers, Benjamin Trott, and Mena G. Trott), the book aims to be a quick-start guide to blogging for technologically-literate people. We've tried to adopt a "just the facts, ma'am" approach. I hope you like it. Please download the PDFs and send in your comments. Tell your friends--as we say in open source software, "many eyes make all bugs shallow".

A whole load of developments around RSS
Ok, we're releasing early and often today. This is a looooong posting, and I'll be adding to it as I go... Un bon sommaire des récentes discussions autour de RSS 0.91-2-3 et 1.0 ainsi que des sujets qui sont connexes (comme ThreadsML). Un excellent site pour ceux qui s'intéressent au sujet.

Peterme has a recap of J.C. Herz's presentation about Networked Experience Design at last week's O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference. À lire, excellente analyse des types d'utilisateurs, basée sur les modèles émergents dans les communautées de jeu vidéo... In it, J.C. argued that people designing any system that exploits a network would do well to study the 'social ecology' of online gaming, where the interactions between players are supported by the elements of the game environments, and spurring various cultural developments. TechNetCast - Fixing Network Security by Hacking the Business Climate. By Bruce Schneier , Counterpane Inc.
Network security has long been considered an engineering problem, and companies try to solve it by applying technologies. This approach is failing; the technologies are failing and the problem is worsening. What we need are security processes, such as detection, response, and deterrence. However, the only way to get corporate management to adequately address security is to change the risk-management equation. This can be achieved by enforcing liabilities, and giving corporate management the means to reduce or insure against those liabilities. It's only after we do all of these things that the Internet will be a safe and secure place. Entire Program (1:25:07) MP3 audio file available (20,429K) [Via Privacy Digest#
