Drivel:  Is it possible to cobble together the pieces of Open Source software to build a client support system that rivals or beats those of the BigCo's?  You bet.  First add a ticketing and issue tracking system like Mantis.  Next, add a project tracking and management system like phpCollab.  Tie it all together with OpenLDAP and MySQL.  Wrap with a content management system like Radio and a slick user interface design.  You know have a website, project, and customer management system that cost you $40 for the Radio license, your time, and hosting costs.  All together, you have spent less than $500 plus your time to build a complete client management portal that is most likely better than anything that the BigCo's could produce by spending millions.  This is true power.  I will let you know the recipe works out.  10:22:01 PM   comments ()

Drivel:  Read between the lines in this article.  The Total Information Awareness project is nothing special.  It is off-the-shelf software from companies like Sun, Microsoft, and IBM customized to automate the process of data collection.  It is just a massive data problem.

Drivel:  Noah, get a blog.  Try testing your article ideas out on your blog before you actually write the articles.  It would be amazing to see what this would do for the journalistic writing process.
## Blogs Make the Headlines. It's been said that newspapers write the first draft of history, but now there are blogs. These days, online scribes often get the news before it's fit to print. By Noah Shachtman. [Wired News]  9:05:55 PM   comments ()

Drivel:  I am off and running on the web site redesign project.  The design will be completed by the end of January.  I will implement it throughout February.  I think that this is a realistic goal given that I will also be working full-time on a project.  And so it begins.  8:55:41 PM   comments ()
