We found Shellie's baby pictures today and I will be scanning them in along with mine. She was a cute baby, too, so the odd are in our favor.

I have been thinking about the experiences and images I want to create for my child over the past couple of days. This has caused me to reflect on my childhood and things that I remember. This thinking has also spawned a new project for me. I am digitizing all of my baby pictures. I would like to get a hold of Shellie's baby pictures and digitize them to create a cross generational photo album for our child. I would like to recreate some of the my most memorable photos for my child. This one of me on my grandfather's shoulder, which was taken in May of 1972, I would like to recreate with my dad and my child. I would also like to add some new ones like some professional black and white photos of Shellie and I with the baby and individuallly with the baby. I guess there will be time enough for this once the baby comes. I am looking at some of my baby pictures and asking myself, "What was running through their heads?" when I see images of my parents. Of course, it was a different time and the world is much different place now.

It seems like I get around to posting once a week now. Shellie is doing very well. She entered her "wonder woman" phase this last week. She is even putting me to shame at the gym. With the baby on the way, we are beginning to think of everything that we haven't done that we wished we had done prior to having a baby. The first thing that came to mind was going to Hawaii. So, we are going to Hawaii next month before Shellie can't fly anymore. We are going to Maui for five days over the Memorial Day weekend. We have also begun planning the nursey. Boy, do we have a lot of work to do over the next six months.

We spent Saturday shopping for maturity clothes for Shellie. I just wish that regular clothes for women were this inexpensive! Shellie has been telling me she can feel her body stretching to accomodate the baby. Wow! The closest thing I can image to this is growing pains when I was five and six years old and know it is nothing like that. On a lighter note, Shellie has been complaining that the baby doesn't like chocolate. Every time she eats chocolate, in any form, her stomache gets upset.

We had our second OB/GYN appointment this morning. Shellie and the baby are very healthy. The doctor commented that Shellie is doing exceptionally well. We got all of our test results back from the first appointment and heard the babies heartbeat for the first time. As soon as I heard the hearbeat it was as if time stood still. I will never forget that sound. The doctor said that the baby has a very strong hearbeat. We have our next appoint on May 2.

I have all of the phone calls recorded on my PC hard drive at home from the calls we made telling everyone Shellie is pregnant. I really need to encode these and put them up on the site. I only wish I had pictures! Speaking of pictures, we will be posting some after this weekend's trip.

We are in Puyallup, WA, this weekend for Ed Lan'es 75th brithday celebration. We have all of our appointments with both families arranged and it is looking like we will need a vacation from this vacation. This is the first family events we will be going to since we found out Shellie is pregnant. It should prove to be very interesting.

I have been neglecting this part of the web site for a couple of weeks due to my travel schedule. I have had two trips to Los Angeles in the last two weeks. Shellie and the baby are doing great. We had our first OB/GYN appointment two weeks ago and are heading back in for another one next week. We entered the second trimester with flying colors this week. Shellie is beginning to feel her body change drastically as the baby grows. She has been sleeping a lot but everything else is going great. No food cravings yet, but I am suspicious. Shellie has been eating a lot of Twix bars lately and having me run for Chinese and chicken soup.

The first OB/GYN appointment is a week from today. Shellie's body certainly has been changing! She always has this glow about her that just makes me smile every time I look at her. The obvious things are happening like her breasts growing. My God, bras are expensive! One of the most wonderful things is that her senses are changing. She is having trouble eating different kinds of food and she says that food, in general, tastes different. However, her sense of smell has become absolutely amazing!! I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing given my predisposition for evening flatulence and propensity to consume garlic.

Shellie went in for an ultrasound on Monday of this week. The doctor was concerned that the babyís heartbeat was too low based on the previous ultrasound. Everything is just fine. The babyís heartbeat is at 154 beats per minute ñ right where it should be. We are going to meet the OB/GYN for the first time on March 17.

On February 13, 2003, Michelle and I officially found out that she was pregnant; though she told me she was pregnant the on Wednesday night after I returned form a horrendous day trip to Chicago. We spent the afternoon in the doctor's office with Dr. Lisa Gilbert. Michelle has an ultrasound done alone with some blood work done that determined she was about five weeks pregnant. We were both very excited, though it took me until Thursday morning to completely comprehend the situation due to my lack of sleep the day before.

One week later, on February 21, 2003, Michelle and I returned to the doctorís office for another ultrasound. During the time between the two ultrasounds, Michelle had another blood test performed, which indicated that she was definitely progressing. This ultrasound was amazing. There had been enough development in a week to actually see a tiny, tiny heart beating. I canít even begin to describe the feeling I felt. It was complete joy, love, and awe -- all in one. I even did a little dance right there in the exam room! The ultrasound technician is beginning to think I am a little whacko. The last time we were in there, she had to tell me to stop asking questions until she was done with the exam. Here are the pictures from this weekís ultrasound:

After the exam was over, the technician input into the computer Michelleís HCG blood levels, the measurements of the egg sack, and the heart rate of the embryo and determined that the due date for the baby is October 18, 2003. After the ultrasound, Michelle and I went upstairs to the OB/GYN department to choose a doctor. Our first appointment with him is going to be March 17, 2003.
