11. Thou Shalt Not Presume To Lay Claim to Elements of My Creation
The patent system here in the US has turned into
a stupid and dangerous monster. Dave nails it: State-sponsored terrorism
To me it's an ethical/philosophical/spiritual issue.
Letting folks patent code -- be it genetic or cybernetic --
is a sin. [God/The Universe/Buddha/Shiva/The Creative Power/Whatever
It-Is-You-Think-Put-This-Whole-Mishagahss-Together]created
this stuff. It is sadly presumptuous for a hairless
monkey to claim they've invented what they've only discovered.
It then moves into blasphemy for a government to give
those losers a license to own and control that which is
merely a part of The Great Creation.
Years back a good friend and colleague spent some time working on a tool
that would make it much easier for BigCo's to track and
manage information about patents. This saddened me greatly;
he was using his great nerdly gifts to serve some of the darkest sides of the force.
