Earth survives solar storm [ CNN - US] Gosh, we survived another one. How amazing. We need a lobbying group to generate more fear and hysteria about the upcoming conversion of our Sun in to a Red Giant that swallows the Earth! [ Edward Mitchell: Common Sense Technology]

How does a solar storm interfere with UHF cellular telephone systems? Every news article says the fairly ordinary coronal mass ejection on the sun that was directed earthward this week had the potential to disrupt celphones and pagers. Sure, these things mess with HF (a.k.a. "shortwave") radio signals but they would have no effect on line of sight systems at UHF radio frequencies. In spite of published reports that said HF radio communications were knocked out, that was definitely not the case here. HF radio circuits were working just fine. Seems like the media wrote the report in anticipation of what could possibly happen, rather than what actually happened. Probably originated at the NY Times where they make up the news [Edward Mitchell: Common Sense Technology]

DirecTV has an interesting concept of the justice system. If you buy a product that might be used for illegal purposes, then you are automatically guilty, whether you use it all, or even if you have a legitimate use of the product. If you have an legitimate use, you must prove your innocence to DirecTV, at your own expense. Electronics hobbyists in particular are in the target zone their broad shotgun approach to justice. This type of corporate bullying is enough reason to boycott DirecTV. [Edward Mitchell: Common Sense Technology]
