Just updating the theme here so the new links will show up.  And again.  And one last time (after using the wrong directory - sigh!)  Now trying something different.  Okay, that last one was just DUMB!  <g>  This should fix that damage.

A Few Good Utilities

I've added a new set of links on the left side for some of the utilities I either am using or have just started using.  They are:

1st Page 2000: This is a free HTML editor from EvrSoft.  I've only just begun to use it to program the main site here, but it looks to be very powerful yet very flexible in its use.  1st Page has different experience settings that allow it to be easily tailored to users of varying skill levels.

ActiveWords:  ActiveWords is a hugely cool program.  It allows you to program keystrokes to perform just about any type of task and automate the repeat use of that task - quick and easy.  ActiveWords is a bit hard to explain, but it allows you to keep your hands on the keyboard and execute powerful scripts to complete tasks you've set up ahead of time.  For example, you can set an ActiveWord to open Word and load a form letter that you've set up ahead of time.  Or open up your browser and navigate to a specific site.  Or start an email message.  Or - well just about anything.

The Bat!:  I've used Eudora Pro as my email client for years.  When I set up my own web site, however, I needed to define my POP3 username in a way that Eudora apparantely won't allow me to do.  So I tried The Bat! on the recommendation of my web host.  This is a cool email program.  It allows for sending and receiving of email from multiple accounts much easier than I've been able to do with Eudora.  The settings are completely unique for each email account and entirely programmable.  This shareware program is an incredible email client!

Radio UserLand:  Ah, the program that got all of this started!  Radio UserLand v8 is the tool that I use to write this weblog.  It was built with the end user in mind.  That sounds like an obvious statement for a computer program intended for people to actually use, but Dave Winer and the folks at UserLand really hit the mark with Radio.  Once I downloaded Radio and started the installation, I was online with my first weblog post easily within five minutes!  A one-year license for Radio includes the web-hosting service, so you get everything in one package with this program.

Google Toolbar:  I think I really missed the mark with this utility.  The Google Toolbar sits on my browser and lets me initiate searches on Google without having to first navigate to their site.  This little utility is a huge timesaver, as it also allows me to highlight the terms that I type into the toolbar so they really stand out from the page.

You just can't go wrong with these utilities.  Give them a try!
