Slow Dialup at Sheraton Suites

Just for reference, on the odd-chance that someone who might be travelling to Columbus, Ohio might be reading this weblog, think twice about staying in the Sheraton Suites if connecting your laptop from the hotel is a concern.  The room was just fine, comfort and cleanliness-wise, but it did not have high-speed Internet access (not a problem) and all I could muster in two days of trying was a 24,000 bps dialup connection.  I only got that once, with 19,200 being a common connection speed.

Things are s-l-o-w at 24,000 bps!  <g>

Thankfully, I'm down to 15 or so email messages a day at work since moving to the new job (from 60-80 before), so they didn't take that long to transfer even at that slow of a connection.  I got lucky on file attachments while travelling though.  Just one at 1.5MB which took a long time to download.

I suspect the hotel had noisy telephone lines, as I tried three local dialup numbers and the national 800 number.  Connection speed did not seem to follow the numbers.
