Drones and Clones
Rich Rodriguez's Radio Weblog

01.12.2002

I'm listening to the most recent Bjšrk album, and it's definitely very good. However, it's a little too much sweeping grandeur for me to handle in one listen. That's one thing I liked about LPs (and tapes) - they broke up albums into 2 pieces easily digested by those of us with short attention spans.

PostgreSQL on OS X

At work I primarily write web applications that use the open source database PostgreSQL. I use Mac OS X at home, and given it's Unix underpinnings, it can run PostgreSQL (pgsql for short).

The folks at Psyex have great guide for building and installing pgsql on X. It's important to note that the source must be patched to run on 10.1.x. The guide has links to the patches, and I also have the files on my iDisk.

Notes from usernum 0100002

After poking around in the system a bit, I'm impressed enough that I bought a license.

A couple issues (which have been mentioned elsewhere):

  • I'd like to see the formatting tools on IE 5.1 for Mac OS X. I use enough angle brackets at work.
  • I'm definitely interested in the WebDAV upstreaming, as was mentioned on Scripting News this morning.

I think this may be one of those rare programs that's easy to use and deep. I've played around with Zope, but this is much friendlier. Congratulations to the folks at UserLand!
