bittorrent is an ingenius p2p application.
you click a link and a small file is downloaded, bittorrent will launch this file and start downloading the "real" file from the p2p cloud, as soon as you have a small chunk of the file you will start uploading to the p2p cloud. the smart thing is that you don't have a shared folder or anything like it, you are only contributing to the p2p cloud with the file you are downloading. also the system works on a tit-for-tat concept, ie. the faster you upload the faster your download will go.
