After hours and hours of fiddling I finally got our main hallway light hooked up to two switches. It actually wasn't that complicated once I sat down and mapped out the wires and figured out where the source wire needed to be connected to have a route to the second switch at all times. Unfortunately I spent quite a while guessing at the correct way to apply some example wiring diagrams to my situation. All in all it was an educational experience and fun too. Kind of reminded me of learning how to program in a new language in fact.

I'm frying here at work while our air conditioning system is down. Parts are ordered, but it sounds like at least a couple more days until we'll be back to normal temperatures. Thank goodness it's not 100° outside like it was a few days ago!

Note to self: bring in a fan tomorrow so that you can actually be comfortable in your office.

Okay, I think I've found something new to add to my computer-related purchase wishlist. EyeTV from El Gato Software is a digital video recorder for any Mac with a USB port running MacOS X. The software/hardware product comes with an external MPEG-1 encoder with built-in cable tuner and audio and video inputs. In other words, exactly what I've been looking for to convert some of my dad's old basketball game tapes to a more durable digital format.

Unfortunately I'll probably have to wait until my birthday before I can get one as I've already got another significant purchase in the works: EtherFast® Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router w/4-Port Switch.
