Whither "Apple Weblog"?

So if I do a search for "Apple Weblog" on Yahoo!, I get this, which is fine...I guess, but where's an Apple weblogger like Scoble? I mean, I like reading Chuq and a couple others, but nothing quite like Scoble.

I guess he's unique? :)

Owning "Microsoft Blogger"

Update: the title changed worked. Before I changed the name of my blog, I wasn't even on the first page of "Microsoft Blogger." Now I'm #3. Just because I changed the title. Shows that Google looks at the title of your Web pages as one of the 100 variables it tracks. [The Scobleizer Weblog]

Well, Scoble, it worked on Yahoo! as well (I've been using it as my default search lately, thanks to OmniWeb 5), you're #5 in a search for "Microsoft Weblog", and #2 for "Microsoft Blogger". :)

Why aren't students going into computer science?

Dave Winer, yesterday, theorized that fewer students were choosing to major in computer science because of Microsoft's industry dominance.

Dave, you're a friend, but that's the biggest stretch you've made recently.

...

So, what's the real reason that students aren't choosing to go into computer science?

[The Scobleizer Weblog]

I have to say I'm with Scoble on this. While I do think that Microsoft's past behaviour and it's general dominance of the computing industry has a chilling effect of the industry as a whole, I can't agree that it's deterring people from going into CS.

I'd like to know the answer as to why myself, but I have a suspicion that the Post Dot.com bubble backlash may have something to do with it.

People were diving into it as long as it looked like a guaranteed cool job, but now, no one is quite sure what to make of it.

The Dot.com era just didn't last long enough to get the momentum rolling for people going into CS to sustain itself.

Gay Marriage and the Election

Well, since everyone has been getting into this, I'm gonna dip my toe in.

First off, I'm voting against Bush in 2004. That's it. In the Republican primary, I'm writing in McCain.

I'm starting to see people talking about not voting for Kerry over the Same-Sex/Gay Marriage issue. This is insane, unless they are talking about the Primary, in which case I say, GodSpeed.

Basically, there are two relevant issues here. One, is a person's personal opinion. Bush's is clear. "Ewwww. Icky".

Mine is simple as well. To quote the great John Stewart: "They're not....gonna make us marry gay, are they? 'cos...if they're not, then I don't why the hell anyone would care!

That's the personal opinion. Then there's the legal one. That one gets more complex.

My opinion, and, interestingly enough, considering Mr. "Judicaries can't decide this issue, but they can put me in power" Bush's view and espousing of a constitutional amendment, any solid Republican would say: "Not the job of the federal Govt. Let the states decide."

Aside from that, I'm in favour of granting but, I do think that there are ramifications of this that I haven't seen anyone talking about.

Same Sex benefits offered by companies would, if same-sex marriages are granted..need to go away or be expanded to people who have steady relationships, both homo or hetero.

Companies aren't going to like the latter choice, and there's a fair chance that they would drop those benefits, for the double reason of less hassle, and saves money (most homosexual couple are not going to want to get married, any more than the average hetero couple.

And that's just the opening bars of the readjustments, I can think of two or three more just off the top of my head.

Anyways, just my minor thoughts on the subject.

SimDanger! SimDanger!

So, my daughter has been playing "The Sims" for the past couple of days. Been getting into it about as much as someone her age can, I think.

So yesterday morning, after she woke me up to get her set up playing it (She has to play on my computer), she comes flying into the bedroom after I've laid back down. "Dad, Dad, it's on fire! The kitchen is on fire!

Luckily I was just drifting, still aware of what was going on.

Josephine was not so fortunate, still being soundly asleep.

*guffaw*

The daughter and I had a small talk about "If this had been a real emergency" tones of voice.

I'm still laughing.
