Thank you Roland! For pointing out the following site:

TTW Editor Widgets: To be listed below the editor widget must be TTW ("through the web" - it works within a browser) and WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get" - you don't see HTML). - Cool, now if only I had the time to hack one of these widgets into Radio so I can use the WYSIWYG editor on the Mac too! Of course if the browser vendors made their browsers better and these widgets easier to program this wouldn't be required!

Which lead me to:

hexidec codex : Java : Ekit: "Ekit is a program & applet that uses the Java 2 libraries to create an HTML editor. The Ekit standalone also allows for HTML to be loaded and saved, as well as serialized and saved as an RTF. It is currently a beta, though many features work fine."

I've been looking for something like this for a LONG TIME. This one works a charm in IE on OS X, but doesn't seem to work in Mozilla or Omniweb. It's a great start though. Only drawback is that it is Java 2 based, so it won't work in OS 9, which some of our clients are still using. Should provide a reason for some of them to upgrade though.

The best part though, is that it seems to create decent HTML. Paragraph tags are closed, tables are simple. Couldn't successfully insert an image in my testing but I'll try again in the morning. I'll have to delve into what's involved in doing a replacement for Radio's posting box next week.
