New Hours for the Children's Carousel The Children's Carousel at Arena Green in the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens is announcing new hours of operation for the Spring & Summer seasons: April 6 - April 30 Tuesday - Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. May 1 - Labor Day Monday - Sunday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Rides are $1.00 each and proceeds benefit the Sharks Foundation, dedicated to meeting the educational, social and cultural needs of youth in the community. Children 12 and under ride free the second Tuesday of every month. The carousel is located at Arena Green, Guadalupe River Park & Gardens, Autumn Street at Santa Clara Street, across from Compaq Center. The San Jose Mercury-News reports on a rise in hit & run accidents in the city: Last year, four out of 10 drivers who struck pedestrians on San Jose streets fled -- 114 drivers in all. The numbers reflect a surge of hit-and-run accidents over the last three years that has left San Jose police alarmed with a growing list of victims. [San Jose Mercury News] I have been trying to understand the increases in hit & run accidents as well. I am guessing that the faltering economy is playing a roll. If things are going badly, you are more likely to panic and run. San Jose is not a pedestrian-friendly city. For too many years, the city's emphasis has been on moving cars quickly. Things have started to change in recent years with neighborhood input and the actions of groups like Walk San Jose.
