"How To Reduce Child Pedestrian Crashes at Your Schools"
June 12, at 7:00 P.M.
Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1100 Shasta Avenue near The Alameda
Concerned that a child might be hit by a car around school drop-off zones
in your neighborhood? Do your schools' chaotic traffic jams annoy parents?
Do students walking to your school(s) pass through campus hazards such as
dangerous parking lots to arrive at class? Then please come to the Walk San
Jose meeting on June 12th. It will feature an easy-to-understand
presentation on the nationally recognized "9-Step School Traffic Safety
Solution." The board meeting begins at 6:00 p.m., presentation starts at
7:00 p.m.
At the easy-to-understand presentation, learn from Underwood & Rosenblum,
Inc. civil engineers and surveyors President Frank Rosenblum, PE, PLS. He
will explain how this "9-Step Solution" can accomplish the following for
your schools:
- Change dangerous, out-of-date drop-off zones to zones that answer
today's safety demands.
- Custom-design the safest, most cost-effective drop-off zones.
- Dramatically improve traffic flow.
- Make campus traffic patterns much safer for students who walk from home.
- Generate consensus on a plan among your PTA, principal, school
district facilities director, and if appropriate, city representatives.
- Complete the planning process in about nine weeks.
- Develop associated budgets for school districts -- the facilities
director, school board, or other decision-makers.
- Allow parents to understand and participate in the engineering
planning process.
For more information, please visit the School Traffic Safety section of www.uandr.com. If you would like to schedule an illustrated presentation
for an upcoming meeting of your organization, please call Lucille Friedland
at (408) 226-5755. We look forward to seeing you at the Walk San Jose
meeting at the Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1100 Shasta Avenue near
The Alameda.

Puppet Shows & Carousel Rides At Arena Green
Grab a picnic blanket for the lawn and bring your young children out for a
couple hours of low-key summer fun on Friday, June 20 between 11:00 am and
3:00 pm. The place is Arena Green, in the Guadalupe River Park, and
admission is free!
Arena Green is the site of the Children's Carousel and two colorful and
innovative new playgrounds for children. On August 20 it will also be the
setting for Dr. Doolittle's Puppet Shows and Puppet Petting Zoo.
You and your children (ages approximately 10 and under) can catch a
performance of "The Misadventures of Alexander H. Wolfington III" at 11:00

with the puppets under the direction of the Motion Maker Puppeteers. Every
child (10 & under) will also be encouraged to take a free ride on the
Children's Carousel. Kids can choose to ride a traditional horse, giraffe

on Santa Clara Street.
