Special Workshop for Teachers in Santa Clara County
Elementary school educators in Santa Clara County are invited to participate
in Watching our Watersheds, a one-day workshop to be held on Saturday,
September 20 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at Guadalupe Gardens, 715 Spring
Street, in San Jose. This popular class is offered by Aquatic Outreach
Institute in partnership with the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens.
Watching our Watersheds is a hands-on workshop where teachers will gain
valuable information on watershed protection and learn how to promote
environmental stewardship among their students. Teachers will be trained in
how to engage students in inquiry-based learning, and to teach about
watersheds and pollution reduction across the curriculum. The workshop will
incorporate lessons on label reading, disposal of household hazardous waste,
and inter-active experiments that promote healthy watersheds.
Each participant will receive a valuable resource binder with lessons and
materials that support the California Content Standards. In addition,
teachers can earn a $150 stipend for a project at their school and/or be
selected to participate in a Healthy Soils project, with their students, on
site in Guadalupe Gardens! Teachers participating in the Watching our
Watersheds also have the opportunity to earn academic credit for this
workshop through CSU-Hayward.
The registration fee is $25 a person and the workshop is limited to 20
participants. It will fill up fast, so call the Friends of Guadalupe River
Park & Gardens today at 408-277-5998 or visit our website at for more information on the workshop and the sponsoring organizations.
This Watching our Watersheds workshop is made possible through a Watershed
Stewardship Grant from the Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of
Directors.
