San Jose is blessed with many vibrant neighborhoods. I try to keep up with neighborhood events throughout the city, but my focus is on downtown/central San Jose.

The Northside Columbus Day Bocce Tournament takes place October 11-12, 2003 from 9 AM [^] 4 PM. The Northside Columbus Day Bocce Tournament, sponsored by the Northside Neighborhood Association, is a fundraiser to help restore and beautify San Jose[base ']s only public bocce courts but it is also a celebration of the contributions of the Italian-American community in San Jose and throughout the Santa Clara Valley.

Men and women, beginners and experienced players, are invited to enter four-person teams in a friendly competition. The winning team will be crowned tournament champion and will walk away with a prize of $1,000. Bid on silent auction items available during the tournament and enjoy cuisine from participating restaurateurs. Entrance fee per team is $100 ($25 person). Tournament limited to first 32 teams to RSVP with their payment. Deadline is October 6, 2003. Play for the money or just play for the fun as you celebrate the contributions of the Italian-American community in San Jose.

The Northside Columbus Day Bocce Tournament is being sponsored, also, in part by the North 13th Street Business Association, the Friends of Backesto Park, and Councilmember Cindy Chavez.
