the Siggraph Art Gallery used to be a friendly and generous venue where independent artists felt welcome. now the benefits of participating have shrunk, the cost has risen, the deadlines are shorter, the submission forms more complex, the documentation requirements overwhelming, the packing instructions extravagant. only an admin staff in a well funded facility can reasonably be expected to face all this without stress. while this was happening, the Gallery has never been able to establish its credibility in the real art world and is mostly attracting a bunch of bored geeks and animators.
i have submitted to all the Siggraph Art Galleries since 1989 and have always been admitted by their jury. would now be the right time to stop contributing? well, although i am quite disgruntled about it, i'll submit two pieces, for the simple reason that 'les absents ont toujours tort', that i always liked being part of the traveling art show, and this year theme (the documentation of the creative process) pleases me much.

there are still people with the lucidity, talent, inspiration and courage to call for a new kind of politics with convincing eloquence. in fact, an accurate description of the world present condition is a powerful incentive for change (Enron, Davos on Hudson, Madagascar, Argentina).
