the new Foveon chip announcement provides some explanations about the white balance shortcomings found on the olympus e10 and the sony 707 still cameras. it's typical of our market economies that most commentators think that this technology is so good that it won't be adopted by the dominant firms. hey, this is what domination is for!

i am slowly replacing my irix/il tools on the o2 by the native tools on the macintosh; these are many and of a totally different approach (so many and different that it's a bit overwhelming); when i do not find something need or have the time to program, i quickly write py/pil scripts (i have installed X11 and tcl/tk, but i am missing sgi's imgtcl --the il library made callable from tcl which was my favorite working tool on the o2).
