not having the slide scanner I need, i was pleasantly surprised by the results i just had with this short cut: shooting closeups of slides over my light table, using the still mode and best imaging format of my video camera, a sony pc100.
35mm slides are full frame, and 2 1/2x2 1/2 are quite wider than the field of view so i can even scan details. using photoshop to invert negatives, crop, rotate and do similar basic manipulations, i could in minutes do decent laser prints, exactly what i needed. this was almost free and quick (good scanners start at $1,700, and a very good one is ten times that; scans are up to $85 apiece and frontier prints are $8 each).
