after spending about twelve hours on scott's ibook and phaseone camera, it appears that the camera needs os9 (bad), is not supported on laptops unless a $795 'portable solution' is used (worse), and (worst) ... needs repairs. this is disappointing and surprising since originally, scott made this one sand shot with the camera two months ago.

i have been trying for more than two weeks to get a new adsl connection for after we move, and nothing has happened yet. in that much time it has not even been possible to have a solid appraisal of what hookup grade we shall have, or to place a firm order in the pipeline. so we shall likely have to wait 10-20 days without internet...
this is incredibly poor service by the local monopoly, verizon. obviously, a deregulated local monopoly is much worse for the people than a strongly regulated, national monopoly. it is getting in california in 2002 as it was in france in 1950 when trying to get connected.
interestingly, verizon people have called about once a month to offer a connexion where we already had one but they fail to answer our isp when we need a new one; are they trying to squeeze isps out?
