Tuesday, September 9, 2003   6:16:43 PM   We are excited to announce our first Research Fellow: Peter Reintjes Cicada is delighted to welcome Peter Reintjes. Peter is working on some amazing stuff. He is investigating web applications for bioinformatics. Look for more news soon about his projects and techniques. The core of the work utilizes Inductive Logic Programming to help generate and refine hypotheses from the enormous volumes of data produced by biotech research. Inductive Logic Programming is a technique well suited for such data mining, producing concise theories about the data. Peter joined us in mid-August; his background incorporates VLSI design at MCNC, including co-design of the BioScan chip to accelerate biological sequence comparisons. Subsequently, he became a Visiting Scientist at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center working on Deductive Databases.
