Interesting. A plan for something like 1/8 to 1/10 of the cost of the war in Iraq, that would move the U.S. toward achieving energy independence. Seems sensible to me; it especially seems like a sensible and desirable goal. -- LD

from the article: an essence of the difference between Dems and Reps...(text coloring mine) Kerry has contended greater energy independence would create jobs, provide for a cleaner environment, bolster security and make sure American soldiers do not have to go to war over Middle East oil.
President Bush has said a massive energy bill blocked by Kerry and other Senate Democrats would help reduce the demand for foreign oil largely by opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.
