California Weekly Hay Report

Southern California: FOB Barn/Stack: 34,762 Tons Delivered: 2,325 Compared to last week, Premium and Supreme Alfalfa not well tested, as production time over and not many stacks left around to buy. Demand remains good for any supplies left which are light. Fair and Good Alfalfa remain under downward pressure as some producers had to sell in order to maintain cash flow. Other producers holding and stacking supplies waiting for dairies desire to buy lower end hay. Prices steady to 5.00 lower. Retail and stable hay mostly steady this week in the southern desert, however in Antelope valley continue to see downward pressure as volume of forage mix hay available having impact on demand for all other hay too. Prices steady to 5.00 lower again, demand light to moderate, supplies moderate to heavy. Seeing lots of hay go into barns for winter take out. Exporters still busy buying Sudan hay, prices steady to 5.00 lower, but uneven. Demand good for upper fine stem light color Sudan, most downward pressure on the lower end of the color and stem spectrum. Not much demand for other hay from exporters.
