California Weekly Hay Report

Southern California: FOB Barn/Stack: 24,976 Tons Delivered: 6,050 Compared to last week, Premium and Supreme not well tested, near steady. Demand good, supplies light. Fair and Good steady to weak, demand light, supplies good and will continue that way as producers moving into making more of this kind of hay due to the season. Antelope Valley producers busy making retail/stable hay, some being sold outright and other going into barn for later sale. Retail and stable hay steady to weak, instances 5.00 lower. Exporters busy, mostly on Sudan hay.

"Forages return more money directly to Arizona producers than any other crop, including cotton and produce. The value of all hay alone produced in Arizona was $183 million in 2001(according to USDA figures), about twice value as much as cotton, while farmers themselves realize only a minor portion of the value of the produce crop. The value of our silage crops adds to the Arizona forage total value. And, forage production is increasing! I urge every Arizona forage producer to give this new organization your support with both membership and participation. Go get a neighbor to join up, too.
