Housing crisis -- California's escalating housing crisis is the result of failed public policies that threaten to impede the state's economic growth, a state oversight panel said in a report released Wednesday. Danville hits state target for housing

[Contra Costa Times - Politics]

The town stepped up to the plate, took a swing at meeting affordable housing goals and hit the ball farther than any other Tri-Valley city, state officials say.

After months of collecting and compiling data and meeting with residents and town officials, Danville planners have their mammoth, state-mandated housing element report certified by the state, making Danville the only Tri-Valley city to meet the Housing and Community Development Department goals.

Cities completing this Herculean task have a blueprint for housing needs, giving a leg up in competing for state funds and bringing much satisfaction, said Linda Wheaton, assistant deputy director for the state housing policy division.

"It's a big deal, given the state of the housing market," Wheaton said. "Danville should be very proud they have done this."

>>>Good for Danville!  After a decade where residents passed a referendum to reject a medium density housing project and the City Council fought an apartment project tooth'n'nail - til they were forced by state law to accept it, it's nice to see the Town has a plan for housing.
