'Villages' in Dublin mix uses

[San Ramon Valley Times]

"Dublin officials and developers hail the Waterford Place development as a smart-growth gem, with its mixed commercial and residential areas and proximity to public transit.

It's the first of five proposed "urban village" developments planned for the city. If completed as envisioned, the projects will put the city on the forefront of a nationwide smart-growth trend, playing up pedestrians, reducing driving and bringing jobs back home."

Dublin votes to buy open property

[San Ramon Valley Times]

"The City Council is going to put its tax money where its mouth is.

The council voted unanimously Tuesday to buy two pieces of property totaling 620 acres directly west of the city limits with the intention of creating a regional park, putting its tax money behind its plans for open space.

"Let's get that land for us forever, but let's compensate the landowners fairly for it," said Councilman Tony Oravetz.

The land is now owned by the Nielsen family and the Cronin Heights Property Partnership."

Central San moves ahead on sewer line
A plan to reduce construction aggravations for neighbors along the Iron Horse Trail seems to be sinking down the drain. Installation of the Dougherty Valley main sewer line is scheduled to begin in June. The city wanted to combine that project with installation of a pipe for recycled water and a Pacific Gas & Electric telecommunications line.
