Fight over transit tax heats up Lisa Vorderbrueggen reports about the tension between the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (dominated by cities) and the Board of Supervisors over the drafting of the renewal of the local transportation sales tax. >>>Good article, although this line.."Adopted in 1988, the existing sales tax program features a growth management checklist that proponents declared would curb sprawl."...doesn't register in my memory banks. No one was talking about sprawl in 1988. The checklist was designed to make sure that new growth didn't cause additional congestion or problems - it never promoted infill. In fact, the Measure's level of service (LOS) standards, while weaker in downtown zones, are a deterrent to infill development.[CCT - Transp&GrowthHeadline]
