5 candidates offer contrasting résumés

"Voters in San Jose City Council District 7, a south-of-downtown community fighting high traffic and overcrowded housing, will choose from five candidates who come from backgrounds nearly as diverse as the district's population.

The race to replace George Shirakawa Jr. includes one candidate who has far outdistanced the others in fundraising, another who is endorsed by Shirakawa and half the city council, a third who has the support of educational leaders, and one who talks about bridging cultural differences.
