I see that PHP Nuke 6.0 has been released, but only to club members. The general public won't be able to get it until Monday. Unfortunately I'll be too busy to do anything with it next week, since the other programmer I work with is visiting & we're going to be doing some pretty intense work to finish the project.

Like I've done for all new releases, I'll install it first on my G3 which I use as a test server, update my themes, add back my modifications, and test it for a few days before I go live with it on MacMegasite & WorldBeatPlanet. I plan to do some new themes for WorldBeatPlanet, since I really hate the theme it uses now (which is one of the standard Nuke themes).

Philips Marketing: You Had Me At Hello.

picture of the StreamiumToday I came across the web site for The Streamium, a boombox for listening to internet radio, CDs, and MP3s from your PC. Here's the description from the press release:

"...the world[base ']s first micro hi-fi system capable of connecting to multiple online music services at the touch of a button."

But that doesn't come close to doing it justice. I'm thoroughly intrigued by it, which means the marketing folks did their job well. Some choice quotes from the site's home page:

You only have two ears: don't waste them on dumbed down music chosen by focus groups.
Plug into your DSL or cable modem and unplug from mass music.
Plays CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs or MP3 & mp3PRO CDs. And AM/FM radio if you must.
100 Watts total power. Share it with your neighbors.
wOOx technology = bass that doesn't bother knocking before it beats the door down.
Song title and artist displayed before you can say "Who is this?"

Now that's market research! Every one of these hits a home run with me. Over at the full Streamium page on the Philips site, we get new slogans such as "Don't dream it. Stream it!" and new nouns such as "streamies" (folks that own the Streamium). It should be available nationally any day now, and it looks like this sweet little puppy will retail for $399, which is very tempting. Tempting, indeed. Make it $299 and Streamium, I'm yours.

Cool! I just figured out how to use IRC in Fire - I'm now in #macdev on openprojects.net with it.

I've been trying to compose letters to the judge & probation officer in the king brothers case. I've already sent a donation to their defense fund.

I'm outraged that they were allowed to waive their rights while at least one brilliant 12 year old programmer wasn't allowed to legally sign a contract to join Apple's developer program.

Over the past few days, any time I'm not working, I've been trying to do anything I can to help bring justice to this case, along with many other people on their site. I've also exchanged several emails with their grandmother, who has provided a lot of insight.

I've also added this banner to all of my sites

My air conditioner broke & I have to wait until tomorrow morning to get it fixed. It's in the mid 80s right now.

Today I brought my 4 month old 2003 Toyota Corolla into the dealer because the paint was discolored in the front. It turns out that it was from the sprinklers and wasn't covered by the warranty. It ended up costing me $74. Right now I'm parking in an empty spot - we have assigned parking, and I can only park there until the end of the month when the people move into that unit. Hopefully they'll be able to do something about the sprinkler, which is right in front of my regular parking space.

I just installed the 10.2.1 update and it cured the connection problem in iChat.

I can't connect in iChat using my Mac.com name right now, although it will let me connect using my AIM screen name. It looks like other people are also having that problem, so there must be a problem verifying mac.com names.

Remembering General Magic. General Magic has announced that they are ceasing operations. I used to own one of their PDAs, and here are some of my personal experiences with it. [MacMegasite]
