Northern Voice Blogging Conference

In the one month that has passed since the ELI annual meeting it feels like a LOT has happened. If you were looking for any evidence of it on here, you are probably not catching much. You would likely have better luck looking here or here.

I was lucky to be one of the organisers of the Northern Voice blogging conference that took place on Feb 12th in Vancouver. I think of this meeting as the "little conference that could". It would be more accurate to state that the meeting is so much fun that it doesn't 'feel like work'. The organising team clearly has a wide range of complementary skills that makes this meeting hummm.

While there were many highlights, I wanted to share one nugget. One of my favourite sessions was Nancy White's "The Seven Competencies...". Nancy tackled a lot in her session. In addition to the generous sharing of her favourite chocolate with the audience, I really liked how Nancy was not afraid to directly address ideas that she didn't fully understand yet. I refer to these bits as the 'blurry bits'. Nancy nicely brought up blurry bits, pondered them, and then gently backed away leaving the audience to solve them on their own time. :-) I suspect we may have all privately toyed with the same questions that Nancy hinted at, but now they are out there. This was a great alternative to the regular bullet point presentation.

If you were not able to attend, not to worry. This meeting is one of the best documented of any out there. Nancy created a wonderful archive of her session by posting the slides as a flickr photoset and then soliciting comments.

Post meeting remix summarized here.
