Early this morning I attended the inaugural meeting and presentation of eBizToronto, at downtown Toronto's DX. The mission of this business group is to raise the profile of e-commerce in Canada, and to encourage e-commerce leadership and success through outreach to decision-makers in all business sectors.

One of those decision makers, no doubt, is a fine colleague of mine, Piers Hemmingsen, Vice President Global Technology for CIBC Wood Gundy. His wife Robin, also in attendance, is a leader in the education sector through her leadership at Centennial College's E-Commerce Institute, based in Scarborough. Currently I serve on Centennial's program advisory committee for its new Information Architecture program, to commence in September 2002.

The event's guest speaker was Ed Kilroy, CEO of IBM Canada. Ed sprinkled his talk with lots of good statistics and avoided the hype that permeated the industry 3 or 4 years ago - but of course managed to slide in some examples of IBM Canada's accomplished project work. My colleague and fellow IMAT member, Anya Colussi, CEO of the Brampton-based e-business consultancy, Yfactor, is one of the driving forces behind this group. Way to go, Anya!

And, a big thank-you to Dana Dean, IT and New Media Sector Development Consultant for the City of Toronto Economic Development Department, for having hosted me at their table, acting in my capacity as director of IMAT.
