> Hike 6: Flapjack Lakes
Distance: 16 Miles (Round trip)
Elevation: 3,900 Feet
Elevation Gain: 3,120 Feet

This was a somewhat strenuous, but enjoyable and mostly bug free hike.

The first part of the trail is pretty flat and passes through the area burned by the beaver fire in 1985. Beavers shouldn't play with matches.

After four miles, the fun begins. The steeper parts of the trail often don't have any switchbacks, which can make the hike seem longer than it actually is.

The lakes are pretty, but overused. There is a quota of 30 campers per night at the lakes and as the the condition of the campsites indicates, the quota is frequently filled. We only saw one other person and he, being naked, apparently wasn't expecting company.

On the way down, we saw a type of frog on the trail we'd never seen before and took some pictures so we could identify it later. It was a Tailed Frog (Ascaphus truei) and the tail is actually a "tail-like copulatory organ". Eeew, I touched it.
