The molecular mechanism of the antibiotic ramoplanin is elucidated. Ramoplanin is a new drug that so far has not generated bacterial resistance. The research article is available in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

The influenza virus attracks bacteria . Binding of Streptococcus pneumoniae was enchanced 4 o 10 times by infection of the lung epithelial cells by influenza A virus. Flus and pneumonia cause by Streptococcus pneumoniae are one of the leading causes of death in the U. S. killing more than 20,000 each year. It is particularity hazardous in the elderly.
