Dan Gillmor: Google effect reduces need for many domains. Google's indexing of ResearchIndex is also reducing the need for traditional bibliographic searches in computer science and its applications (for instance computational biology). When preparing a graduate class this Fall, almost all references could be found by typing a few author names or title words on Google. I also use Google and ResearchIndex to find bibliographic details when writing. Effective search brings a revolution in referring: for the first time, we do not need specialized reference sources and experts to find what we want to read and refer to. 7:13:43 PM |
