the cost of "free": In the past two weeks three streams from my favorite public radio stations have been seriously degraded. One went from 128kbps to 48kbps (streaming mp3), another went from 96kbps mp3 to 32kbps mp3 and the third is gone. Bandwidth still costs. (Via tingilinde.) Lower-quality "teaser" streams with higher-quality subscription-supported podcasts. Would work for me if one could subscribe to a menu of stations for a single fee. With what I give to public radio, $10-$15/month would seem a reasonable price point. I have no idea what the breakeven point for this would be, though.11:11:20 AM ![]() |
