Everything I have read indicates that there is no SS emergency. Or rather, privitization will not fix it. The same extrapolations that predict that it will no longer be able to pay out full benefits in 2040 use as a model an economy for the next 36 years that is so bad that having money in the stock market will not get you any better results. Or, more accurately, if the economy is so good that you can make even 4-6 % return on your private account, then it will have been so good that SS would NEVER go into the red. So, there is no reason for privitization. It will not have any effect on whether SS needs help. It seems like just a vehicle for brokers to make a ton of money.  comment []9:40:56 PM
