NYT editorial eviscerates Bush. Armando at DKos pointed today's NYT editorial out to me, and he's right, it's bad (in a good for us, bad for Bush kind of way):We can't think of a president who has gone to the American people more often than George W. Bush has to ask them to forget about things like democracy, judicial process and the balance of powers âo[per thou] and just trust him. We also can't think of a president who has deserved that trust less.
This has been a central flaw of Mr. Bush's presidency for a long time. But last week produced a flood of evidence that vividly drove home the point. [AMERICAblog]
Right on the button. His administration bases more things on "Trust us" when they have done the least to deserve it. They were wrong about the uranium from Niger and responded by using classified information for political gain. They were wrong about WMDs but just trust us. They were wrong about the costs of the war but just trust us. They misled about the costs of the Medicare Drug plan but just trust us. They have misled about every single budget but just trust us. They misled about the tax cuts but just trust us. They misled about Social Security but just trust us (since it is back in their new budget). We were told that they did not know about the levees breaking, when they were told. Bush was doing fundraisers in the West when New Orleans was drowning in the South. His response to hearing that the US was under attack was to sit for 7 minutes in a schoolroom of children, Since going after the President would seemto be a priority for a sneak attack against US icons, he put those children and the school at risk for the 7 minutes he just sat there reading about the goat. They have arrested American citizens on US so, held the, with benefit of a lawyer yet we are to trust them.He wants to investigate alternative fuels at the same time he is cutting position that investigate alternative fuels. He claims to be a science president as he lowers science spending. Yeah, trust us. After all the screwups they have made, why should we trust them with anything that involves breaking the law, with vilating any part of the bill of right. 10:44:43 AM

Off and on ice. Mary Lu Wehmeier, an early (circa 2000) blogger and skating authority, reports on the Winter Olympics. Here's her latest on Michelle Kwan. In this day and age of "prima donna" athletes, every athlete professional or amateur should be forced to watch how she conducted herself and model themselves after Michelle. [The Doc Searls Weblog]
Michelle is a class act. I am sure the pressures on her to compete are tremendous. Takes a lot of courage and class to bow out so gracefully. 10:32:42 AM
