Keeping Score

My father just ran the Helsinki Marathon in 5 hours 17 minutes.  Not bad at any age.

A Belated Note from the National Cartoonists' Society

"May 25, 2002, Cancun, Mexico - Jerry Scott, co-creator of the popular "Zits" and "Baby Blues" comic strips, has won the National Cartoonists Society (NCS) 2001 Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year. The "Oscar of cartooning" was presented at a blacktie gala during the 56th Annual Reuben Awards Weekend, held this year in Cancun, Mexico. The prestigious Reuben Award, given by the NCS each year for exemplary cartoon work created in the previous year, was designed by and named after the NCS' first president, Rube Goldberg."

I noticed with some interest that "Samurai Jack" also won an award for "Television Animation" and that Frank Cho, who used to draw "Liberty Meadows" until it finally petered out, won awards for comic books and book illustration.  Cho is a gifted artist, but he is a less gifted narrator, and his heart did not seem to be in "Liberty Meadows" toward the end of its run.
