The Myth of the Great War

I am reading The Myth of the Great War by John Mosier.  Myth is a fascinating study of how the war unfolded based on Allied self-delusion over the effectiveness of their tactics and German scientific application of vastly superior firepower using modern tactics.  Mosier's analysis provides a comprehensible context for the immolation of the British and French armies in massive frontal assaults ordered by callous and incompetent generals who cynically deceived their countries and their governments about their failures in the field.  The book calls into question whether millions of lives might not have been saved, and the war ended sooner, if the British and French high commands had either grasped modern tactics or at least profited from study of the German example.
