I have to admit that I am not totally satisfied with the new layout, but I think it is worth continuing to experiment.  The danger, of course, is becoming absorbed in layout to the exclusion of writing, so I am not likely to do too much more with the look of the site for a while.  With luck, however, the new layout will result in faster load times.

I have updated the look of the site by modifying a template from Bryan Bell, with code that I hope is both aeshetically pleasing and more functional.  The chief innovation is that it relies heavily on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
