I've been saying this for years. I'd rather my kid play any video game
rather than watch TV. According to this article,
they may even be better than reading a book!
My friend Beth is a print designer who recently began her company's first
web project. She's having all the usual problems, including being frustrated
by the limited palate of colors. MoreCrayons is just the site she
needs. Go crazy.
Recently, Clara and I began selling books on Amazon.com. The process is
painless and thanks to Clara's conscientious efforts as our shipping
department, we've got many satisfied customers. We have sold a couple
"advanced uncorrected proofs" -- which according to this Wired
article, could be hurting sales for authors. My mother- and sister-in law
are writers, so this kind of news worries me, but I've long felt that the
big publishers were old-economy dinosaurs and deserved to be taken out. I
feel the same way about the music industry. Here's an article about a visit to the factory where our publishing
friends destroy millions of books that should never have been printed in the
first place. TEN PERCENT of new books end up here! Think of the trees.
DHTML.focus is a new newsletter. Looks cool.
Symmetry
and Tessellation For when you just got to get your Escher on! Here's
another educational resource for K-12 that might help me with my bad
handwriting!
The first time I played Go as an adult, I decided I never needed to play
Chess again. I love this game, even though I am a rank amateur, and Go is a
game where humiliation by more advanced players is a recurring nightmare. GoProblems.com looks like a cool site
(nice design!) for me to practice up for my next high-school reunion, where
I'll be sure to get spanked by old classmates Daniel Kim or Mark
Herbster.
Yes, I watch too much TV. And that includes an unhealthy addiction to
Survivor (which my wife calls a near perfect, low energy show). Some smarty
has got a Survivor-Sims
program going. I wonder if I'll get addicted.
Yet another link for our class. This one is about how to
build a "sticky" library site on a shoestring.
