Senate Blocks Funding for Pentagon Database
Saying they feared government snooping against ordinary Americans, U.S. senators voted on Thursday to block funding for a Pentagon computer project that would scour databases for terrorist threats.

I blogged this threat to personal freedom back in November. It's nice to see that Congress had the same issues with it that I have. Poindexter; a convicted criminal with a history of lying to Congress, is the wrong man to helm this project, even if it were of real value. The bad part is that Congress did not kill it; the Democrats wanted to, but Republican lawmakers only agreed to request a review and more information about the program. The idea that the Defense Department should be doing internal surveillance is a scary one at best, a terrifying one at worst...mj
