The New Frontier of Learning Object
Design [Stephen Downes]
Stephen's comment: "There's nothing really new in this article about learning objects (though this is the first time I've seen the learning objectives snowflake diagram), but it's a pretty good overview of learning objects."

Art Kleiner: Interview. I would simply say that regular practice of thoughtful, candid conversation makes an enormous difference to an organization. It doesn't have to be simpering, sweet conversation: It should merely be the kind of conversation where people are willing to speak clearly and authentically to each other. And it needs a structure which fosters safety, even when talking about dangerous issues. The payoffs are well known by now: A sense of alignment among people, and an end to the dangerous ignorance that comes when people routinely protect each other from important news. - Art Kleiner Bio [elearningpost]

Interview with Jim Fulton. EuroPython: Interview with Jim Fulton "[Zope 3] didn't really start as a rewrite. About a year and a half ago, a bunch of us at Zope Corporation decided to step back and brainstorm some things we could do to make the Zope development experience better. We came up with a number of ideas, including" [ZopeNewbies]
I look forward to Zope 3 even though I haven't yet made tremendous headway with using Zope 2.

The role of face-to-face communication in distributed work. Most distributed work requires mediated communication, but the appropriate use of mediated, as compared with face-to-face communication, is not well understood. Face to face communication supports touch, shared activities, eating and drinking together, as well as informal interactions and attention management. We argue that these activities are crucial for sustaining the social relationships that make distributed work possible... We also document the disadvantages of face to face communication – that it can be disruptive, expensive and effortful – describing when mediated communication is preferable. - [pdf document, 240kb] - via Peterme [elearningpost]

Boxes & Arrows: Foreseeing the future: The legacy of Vannevar Bush. It is because of this article that Bush has been hailed as the conceptual creator of "hypertext". The article is at its most innovative and interesting in the description of how the memex device was to work for the reader. [Tomalak's Realm]
It's probably about time to read the famous works of that legendary Vannevar Bush.
