'if'... Thoughts, wrote Nietzsche, are shadows of our feelings: always darker, emptier, and simpler than these. And the written word, it strikes me, is but a shadow of our thoughts.

. . find so few writing on dreams . . . at least those i follow . . . dreamed a few days ago a dream that still haunts . . . I had returned to the family I so loved and lived with during my time in Vienna. It was as if travelling back in time, for they had not aged ... the husband, wife, boy and girl were all the same age as when I left them in '89 ... they were living in a large, single room farm house ... night was approaching and all members were heading to sleep ... each to their own corner ... it disturbed me because i remembered them as a close family and now they were isolated from each other... I couldn't find a corner and decided to head outside stumbling over, to my surprise, the women who had been sleeping outside ... i apologized and she asked me not to disturb her nor the others ... i didn't know where to go ... the white exterior of the house glowed in the moonlight and the whole scene transformed into a surreal image out of castenada's don juan experiences ... i went to the kitchen area next to the large, wood burning stove and curled myself up on the floor wrapped in a rough horse blanket ... the stove was still warm from the evening supper and it beckoned me closer ... it was as if, in order to meet in our dreams, we must sleep seperately ... a white dog barked in my dream within a dream ... the boy, who was afraid of dogs woke up and shouted at me to wake up ... i did and i did ...

Proust wrote: "The only true voyage of discovery, the only really rejuvenating experience would not be to visit strange lands, but to possess other eyes, to see the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others, to see the hundred universes that each of them sees."
