Practical Science: a recent paper by Lora E. Fleming of the Marine and Freshwater Biomedical Sciences Center at the University of Miami reports on the diagnosis and treatment for ciguatera, the world's most commonly reported form of seafood poisoning.

How do you find out if the local fish are contaminated? That's easy. "Using a household pet or even elderly relative as a simple bioassay was and may still be practiced in many island communities," Fleming states. [NewScientist]

First G2 Pictures - 1 2
You may remember that I was concerned about my proficiency with my new camera's auto-focus system. Well, the first two films came back. The number of out-of focus shots out of 72 exposures? Zero. The shots I've posted were taken at the British Museum, the West End of London, and Canary Wharf.
