BOXPLORER.
The Internet BOXPLORER >> browser offers a rectangular view of the World Wide Web. It abstracts web page layouts to produce what are frequently rather colorful compositions. BOXPLORER >> purifies the Web, making it safe for children of all ages -- free from controversy and advertising. [Andy Deck][via FernandO]

Take a look at a "boxed" visual representation of your favorite Weblogs... Maybe some would make an artsy print for Christmas...

Blogging in Atlanta - NWP.
The BlogAtlanta training seems to have been a big success. 16 new weblogs for Technology Liaison's from across the country. These technology Liaisons were a technology savvy group that was so hands-on and minds-on that we finished with a half hour to spare! Karen's knock out color coded handouts and online tutorial, and Pat's co-presentation with insights on looking at the possibilities of digital paper was lean and mean. I like doing what I do best, supporting teachers. [Albert Delgado]

Shirl Girl on a Whirl.

By phone and Web, I tutored Shirley and Christina from NWP early this AM. Manila on two screens and three work stations was delightfully amenable. Nothing too complicated: a little xml, a little inclMsg macro, and the "ahah!" moment of discovering the WYSIWYG editor's hyperlink icon. Shirl (She'll hate me for that moniker, but it's too East coast to pass up.) was thrilled. Giggly thrilled. I felt the same thing in 9th. grade when my mother demonstrated the wonders of carbon paper. Voila - instant high school underground newspaper! The power of writing is dependent on the power of publishing.  Thanks, Shirl Girl, for the reassurance that digital paper rocks.

Practical strategies for creating a successful intranet. Shiv Singh writes about some key activities and approaches for ensuring a successful intranet development. He argues that there needs to be a balance between meting user needs and delivering business benefits. (I agree with him.) His five main strategies:... [Column Two]

Microsoft plans online life archive.

Microsoft researchers are working on ways to create a "back-up brain" that will do a much better job of containing and cataloguing every picture you take, document you write or conversation you record.

The scientists collaborating on the project believe that the database of your life could hold a vast array of items that are automatically catalogued and as easy to search as Google.

If it proves successful, the project could realise the dreams of hypertext visionary Vannevar Bush, who first floated the idea of a lifestore more than 50 years ago...[BBC News]

Oh no... Microsoft? They cannot even design a decent graphical user interface and now they want to create our "back-up brains"?
