| Security Weblog Business benefits of federated digital identity Federated digital identity is quite a slippery concept. Because it relates to almost all current trends in IT, ubiquitous computing, user centric computing, web services, and so on, it quite is easy to get some notion of it. However if you start to think about examples, you usually end up with single sign-on to many websites. This is, however, relatively easy to resolve. To give other concrete examples (outlining scenarios of use) is considerably harder. Why? Because you have to think about business models and what's even more, about those that yet don't exist. Though, there are some pioneers pushing the boundaries in this direction. Wading through the Internet, I have found Stencil Group, DestiCorp, ZapThink and highly influential John Hagel. All of them have something to say. The downside to it is that they use lots of arcane consultant-speak that does make sense when you understand the concepts but that are hard to translate into normal language. And when you use original buzzwords, you sound like an alien ... or like a strategy consultant. OK, so a little glimpse into the world of buzzworld
