David Coursey bashing Linux. Whenever I read his column, I find myself thinking "Ok, which multinational megacorp does he think needs defending today?" Apparently its Microsoft today. And because he was friends with a SCO exec, he thinks he understands Unix. He talks about a "marketplace of ideas", but then proceeds to talk about a marketplace of dollars. He complains about linux users being CHEAP.
The thing is, David, that the world has been paying for the privilege of being sodomized by software vendors for over twenty years, with the promise that things will be better with the next version - it won't be rape - you'll enjoy it. ... in the next version. But now, with the next version (Windows XP/DMCA/SSSCA) the message is clear - sorry we're going to continue raping you but now we want to make it illegal for you to resist.
Linux is refreshing for just that reason. Its primary goal is not to secure a continuing revenue stream from my pocket to some billionaire's bank account. Its primary goal is to solve my computing problems. Instead of spending my day programming to find ways around license restrictions (which is what I did before Linux), I can spend my day solving business problems.
