Road Signs for Vagabond Computer Users. In "war chalking," a series of symbols on sidewalks and buildings indicate the presence of a wireless network. By Glenn Fleishman. [New York Times: Technology] More about marking Wi-Fi access points... 3:55:34 PM
A Stereo That's Small and Digital Every time you play a CD, the machine automatically copies its tracks onto its built-in 20-gigabyte hard drive. Yes! Qwest is being investigated. Qwest Discloses U.S. Attorney Is Investigating the Company. Qwest Communications International, the nation's fourth-largest local telephone company, said today that it was the subject of a criminal investigation by the Justice Department. By Kenneth N. Gilpin. [New York Times: Technology]
Once again, I say it couldn't be happening to a more deserving company. Here in the Pacific Northwest, Qwest has never had a clue about serving its customers, and it hasn't had to since it is the only land-line option. I used to have DSL through Qwest, but their support was so horrible, especially after my DSL router was affected by the viruses last summer that I divested in all the Qwest gear that I could. Just yesterday I had four phone calls from Qwest trying to sell me an upgraded phone package, including a feature that would block telemarketing calls. I don't think the telemarketer understood at first when I asked without delay whether the feature would block him...
Qwest can go the way of the dinosaurs and I would be a happy camper.
